Tony Cook first became fascinated with tornadoes at the age of 15.
One August afternoon, he witnessed an F0 spinning through his
backyard in Northern Alabama. That small tornado (produced by a
rainband of Tropical Storm Danny) was the embryo for Tony's
chasing obsession.
In the early to mid 90's, Tony began chasing locally near his
hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. As the new millennium rolled
around, he began to expand his chasing domain and success ratio.
In 2006, Tony relocated to Austin, Texas and chased the Southern
plains and Texas panhandle for the first time. The bittersweet
highlight of his chasing career was the monster EF5 that destroyed
Greensburg, KS on May 4, 2007.
When he is not chasing storms, Tony writes web application
software for the GIS and Oceanographic communities. He has
completed the coursework towards an Atmospheric Science master's
degree at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Apart from
weather, Tony's other passion is music. He is a guitarist and
songwriter, performing occasionally in and around the Austin area.
He also participates unashamedly in the cutthroat world of
competitive Scrabble.
